We have a wealth of information from A to Z on US Immigration, why dont we ourselves write articles and editorials and get them published in the News Papers, Journals, etc?
Why are we waiting for some one to come to us and take information to write articles on us. Does Newspapers check the background of authors to verify if they are citizens/non-citizens/green card holders/ H1B's. What all matters to them is quality and authenticity of the articles.
Do you folks think this a good option to pursue?
Is anybody stopping you from doing so?

I came here with my dad and mom. My dad's I-485 was denied because his I-140 was revoked. He appealed but it was dismissed. With the principle application denied, everything for me and my mom was also denied. Because I was just a child I really had no idea what was going on. However flipping through all the family documentations I don't see any deportation orders, I only see something that says we no longer has a valid non immigrant status and the district office has jurisdiction over issues of departure.
So my question is, and I realize this might be a stupid question, but what is my status in the U.S.? Am I an illegal immigrant? Am I deport-able? Am I visa overstayed? Since I did came here legally.
and with that status, is there anything I can do? Now that I am over 18 can I apply for visa/green card by myself? Through jobs or student visa? And what is the 3/10 reentry bar and how will it affect me?
I think I am one of the dream act students that failed today, and with that failed in the senate, I really dont know what to do. I know I might not deem to have the right to ask these questions, but any advice or help I would be grateful.

I was able to apply without any hassle at all. I took all my documents, but only needed passport, driver's license and EAD as proof.

is there any limitation in sending DHS 7001 to ombudsman?
Because i already sent this form twice and no response so far. Should i send it third time?
There we go again. Now we need to create another ombudsman to make sure current ombudsman office works straight...:p
Call the BLACKHOLE aka cis office, get info about your case, and note the person's badge you spoke, time and day of your call, put it in a letter along with file 7001 and send to ombudsman's office (also mention in the letter that you filed 7001 couple of times earlier). You need to get hold of someone in ombudsman's office and be in constant touch through email or something...You should have been on the conference call past week...Next time you can participate and ask directly...

So, this so called nice card...how does it come?
I know its by USPS , but do they need you to sign or something... ?when you get the cover or package, ...or will it be sitting in the mail box one fine day sometime after ones case is approved ?
I might be out of the country perhaps when the card comes, (if I am lucky and my case is attended to by the authorities in July) .... (I will come back on AP)
Intially I was thinking of putting a hold on my mail in the post office...but my lawyer said that USPS sometimes returns mails from USCIS (which could be H1, EAD, AP, GCs, etc...)
So now am thinking I will request my neighbour to hold my mail for me....but am wondering if a signature is needed if the card comes during my absense....

My check was cashed on 08/31. Based on the receipt numbers on the back of the check, online status shows that receipts were mailed on 08/31, but I haven't received till date. On 10/01, I called customer service and made them create service request. No progress so far. I am planning to call sometime next week and find the status of the service request.
Is anyone in the similar situation of not receiving the receipts even after check has cashed way back.

Since you have work authorization (EAD), you should apply for SSN. For job application you donot need SSN but once you get a job then your employer might ask yr SSN for background check and afterwards for pay check. Generally it takes 2 weeks to get SSN so it's better to apply in advance.
Refer to http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10002.html#how and check out Application For A Social Security Card (Form SS-5) under How do I get a number and card? You need to fill out this form.
This form has list of documents you need to get a SSN card. Generally you need to carry your Passport and EAD. They will return all the documents at same time. They won't keep the documents with them and they need all original documents. They donot accept Copies. Hope this helps.

FYI: I am a derivative I-485 applicant (my spouce is a primary 485 applicant).
So, Did you mean I can join an employer on EAD and file for green card processing (labor cert, 140, and 485) as a primary applicant with my prospective employer?

Switching to F1 will allow her to use OPT / CPT benefits as well as allow her to work part time on campus during term. In order to qualify for OPT the student needs to be in F1 status for 1 academic year prior to submitting application for OPT.

My H1-B visa expired on June 16, 2007. Extension (I-129) has been filed in May 2007 (before expiration). It has not been approved yet. It's still pending. My LC has been approved on July 09, 2007 and my PD is April 2004. My question is: Can I file concurrently I-140 and I-485? Will my application be rejected or will an RFE be issued?

amsaleem is right. The exp I used was the one i had prior to my filling date.
fromnaija i dont agree with what u have to say. In my case i used my exp to prove that I can do the job for which my LC was applied for.
Here is my situation.
Worked for 2 1/2 years with an Indian company. Joined the current company in Apr 2001. Applied for my LC on Jan 2004. Got my LC approved on Jan 2006. My lawyers took their own sweet time to apply I 140 and was applied in Mar 2006 and got approval on October 2006. I used my exp from Apr 2001 to Jan 2004 to prove that i can do the job. The job descriptions were very similar. Hope this helps.

Since it is a new H1 I would say unless the petitioning employer is not co-operating, Then you don't have any other choice. You need to wait until next April for new H1.
Did u try to go to another consulate, Say Mumbai or Chennai or Kolkata.
I am not sure if that would work, since i have heard that consulate will sometimes hold the passport and/or stamp on the back that this application was received.
If you are able to go to another consulate go ahead and check your luck, sometimes they don't ask anything for documentation (This happened with me twice)
