In OS X you can literally control just about any aspect of the the operating system via terminal. I would argue that an expert *nix user has more "unrestricted control" over OS X than an expert windows user can have under XP.

when snow leopard came out apple issued a coupon to people who bought a mac i think it was 2 months prior to release to upgrade for $10 but even that was generous.

By using a 3rd party application. Here are 2 choices.

You might also consider creating a password protected disk image (don't store the password in your keychain :rolleyes: ). And then mount it, copy your.. umm.. sensitive material into it... and then unmount it. Next time you mount it, you will be prompted for the password.

Just to reiterate, never ever use bliss. It's not their products, but the attitude. I understand if you offer cheaper products, but don't tout them as perfectly good if you're going to be pissed when people find out they're not.

Have you checked the directory permissions? By default, your Documents directory is set to only be readable by you (for security on your local machine).
Try chmodding that sucker...

Newb question - what do I do with the wallpapers I download? Do I need to put them in a particular folder? Can I create a "wallpaper" folder in my documents or images folder?
Right now I have a few from last night just sitting in my docs folder, but when I started the MBP this morning it went back to the default wallpaper (purplish space shot)...?

I would have thought that Apple still cared about making computers.
Guess we were both wrong.
ever since ipod hit the market they have been more concerned with that market. most of their revenue (correct me if i'm wrong) comes from ipod sales.

keith is probably right re: dv import, i don't use imovie so i don't know (thus the version history link). There shouldn't be any qualitative difference btwn DV files imported on older / newer machines and the import from tape is in real-time, so an old machine will crank away just as well as anything. The new machine will make a big difference when actually transcoding, editing, and exporting.

By no problem, do you mean that you feel no difference between 10.6 an 10.7?
Well the cursor is not as fast as in Windows, but it's managable.
I don't notice a difference between 10.6 and 10.7 as far as tracking speed, but I don't do much gaming and mouse speed is not an issue for me.
I don't use Windows on this Mac, so I am not sure about the speed in between Mac/Windows.

I've frequently seen this when the plug is not fully inserted into the jack. It can take a fair amount of pressure to overcome that last detent in the jack.
