i too am still a beginner at photography but it to me, it seems like the plants in the foreground of the first picture just get in the way. They seem to hide part mountain. i sorta don't know whether i should be looking at the mountain or the plants in front of it.

and you are right, it is a beautiful country. hope to one day visit it

Now of your budget is over 1k then we can talk better cameras ;)

say its 1 to 2k, and the output is for vimeo HD, or a 135" PJ, via iMovie or FCE, what would you kindly recommend?

a few things you can do other than getting a stabilizer or mount.

    - use built in optical stabilizer (assuming one)
    - practice "body as a tripod", keep camera close to body, turn body, not camera.
    - use the grid display function (assuming one) as a static reference. it's easier to see shaky movement on a static line/grid vs. dynamic motion.
    - adding any weight to the camera will help. This technically a stabilizer, but as an example you can add weight via the threaded 1/8" tripod mount, an 1/8" bolt and some washers.
    - use a monopod. a lot of tripod functionality but you can run with it.

Clearly, an external HDD is the answer. For the $100/month you're spending on cloud services, you could buy a TB of local storage each month.

Even better would be a NAS system -- basically a dedicated file server on your local network. There are lots of products out there. Drobo is a very popular one. There are a couple advantages to this approach. You can configure the system for RAID or similar failure protection, along with hot swapping drives to replace failed drives. The data is also readily available without the hassle of locating and plugging in a portable drive.

I find the NAS approach to be particularly useful for photo and video storage. You can actually do your editing directly off the network drive, or you can easily move the file over the network to the local disk in order to speed up processing. I use Lightroom to work on photo files stored on a network disk, and it works out very well.

    Erase and Install.

Lesson: Don't install preview/beta OS over your original OS when you are relying on that machine.

So I have a 2009 Mac Mini which I installed boot camp on and a windows 7 buisness 32 bit installation. It now only boots into that operating system. Holding down the x,c,alt/option keys at start up do nothing. The only thing it seems to respond to is the mouse to eject a disk. This probably means I have a bad keyboard but I typed this entire post with it and I don't have another keyboard in the house to test the theory with (except PS/2 inputs).

Any thoughts? Unfortunately I just brought this mac mini from school and left all my disks there so it might just be I didnt finish the boot camp install in windows, is there any way to get around this?

    Thanks!

I got some relief from a similar problem when I set my mail to check for new mail less often than I had previously set it. Seems some servers don't like it when you access too often. I'm at every 5 minutes now, with no problems. Maybe this would work for you?

    I'm ovah heah now!

I think that the biggest hidded gem is the multi-finger touch sensitive screen. I've seen the technology demo'd at some technology preview forum, but not in a mainstream product. I think that this portends a paradigm shift for workstations in general.

I'm an artist by trade, have been digital since '84 but have missed the old drawing board since then. I want a touch sensitive screen with no lag in the form of a traditional drawing board, that I can use a stylus and my near atrophied left hand interactively. I want to move the "paper" and draw at the same time like in the real world. A nice 42" "DIGITABLE" with legs or a stand to keep it at a drawing angle woud do nicely. It could mimic any and all things, like audio mixing boards, film editing etc. Once I got the 24" iMac I could see how close we are. But, this multi-touch sensitive screen stuff just makes me drool. Maybe that what Jobs has up his sleeve.

    That's what I'm talkin' about!

I'd appreciate any links to distributed computing forums, not of the folding @ home type but for closed, professional grid-based computing. It'd be good to read up on what other people are doing in respect of this these days.

    Thanks

Yes, this is most disapointing. I have been wanting this app on my iPad ever since I got one. This is even more glaring since you can't even access Apple's own MobileMe site from the iPad - which is another rant entirely.

The iPad updating of their own apps is quite sad.

The remote app which is a must with a networked express and/or Apple TV setup would truly benefit from not only being updated to run at something other than 2x mode, but a whole new iPad UI. And it should have been ready on April 3rd when the iPad was released. Same goes true for the Gallery and iDisk apps.

I don't want to run any Apple apps in 2x or worse 1x mode on an iPad. Likewise, just like the Settings app and others, rethink the UI instead of blowing up the image.

I been very disappointed with :apple: support with the iPad and mobile me, they have not even got iDisk, and I though they should allow other apps to sync data with iDisk. I get the impression, Apple does not know what to do with mobileme, just like :apple:TV, products that do not integrate well into the apple solution.

I would really like to be able to upload my photos from my iPad straight to MobileMe (without any image reduction).

The next Mac Mini should be fine for that. If as hoped it gets a Sandy Bridge processor it'll make the MacBook Air look terribly slow in comparison for CPU intensive tasks, especially if you put a SSD in the Mini.

As for EyeTV, the current Mini isn't as powerful as many of us would like, but I find it to be adequate. Hopefully the refresh will correct this and allow smooth playing of live sport in HDTV using progressive scan.

Yeah, that really sucks. If it was me, and I couldn't afford the clean up or a lawyer to sue, I would just walk away from the house and let the bank foreclose.

I haven't checked, it may be possible to set it up so they can simply send an email to a single address and have it forwarded out by MailChimp or similar to all the address in the database. The form I put on the website is powered directly by MailChimp, though, which is why I showed it. The entries from that are sent directly to their servers.

It's just fairly complex to set this up manually, and I don't know all the steps (I've tried before, in fact).

What am I doing wrong? Im thinking my DNS is set up right but I guess I dont know how to set up the web services properly. Ideally, Id like to keep any tinkering within Server Admin, as I can teach a dedicated volunteer to do that easier than using a terminal command or editing some obscure file.

Quick question, are you working on the server from inside or outside the network where it resides?

Would love for them to open a store near Lancaster or Harrisburg, but until then KOP is the closest. Dunno if I'm in the mood to pay tolls to get there, though. Having never been to a launch event, is it really worth it if I'm not going to buy it?

Hi guys, I just swapped my iPad 2 out for yet another new one (and flawless screen-wise; yes, they do exist!) and it turns out that it came with 4.3.1.

Being that 4.3.3 just came out hours ago, will Apple still let me upgrade to 4.3.2? I read somewhere that they do allow customers to upgrade to the immediate predecessor of a just released iOS update for a short period of time. Is this true?

Yes, I know there's no jailbreak for the iPad 2 yet, but I'm not worried about my location data, which this mini update is all about. However, I'd like to get 4.3.2 for its (supposed) battery life benefits.

It also happens to be something that I've always wanted to know how to do, i.e. upgrade to a version that is different than what iTunes serves up.

Oh, and yes, I have my SHSH blobs for 4.3.2 saved by way of TinyUmbrella, if that makes any difference. ;)

Thanks very much for any responses! :)

 I have been working with pc's since win 95, my first one had win 95, it was ok, but I didn't know how to use it, many years later, I have built them, repaired them, junked them, and got headaches over them. I work tech. support for a small ISP in northern Indiana, all the trouble calls I get are with Windows machines, the only time I get to talk to our Mac customers is when there sign up, and even then it is short because I don't have to walk them through the setup, they know how. So I bought an iBook and have never been happier, this thing has great sound for such a small box, 12.1 ", 900 MHz, 640 MB Ram, 60 GB HD, Airport Card, Combo CDRW/DVD Drive, yes it is maxed out, the biggest Apple makes, I wanted somthing small and powerful and I got it, I love this thing, and it is so easy to use straight out of the box!, Thank You Apple!
