Well, I'll be using it for notetaking, the occasional graphic work and quite possibly some numbercrunching come next semester... We'll be doing statistics
Basically, you could say that what I need is an advanced typewriter, but then again, I imagine that once I get to know the machine, I'll be wanting it to do more stuff? Never had a portable before....
-squirrel
I was thinking the same thing and wanted a powerbook but in the end I didnt have enough cash so I went with a 12" ibook with some extra ram and it has impressed me. I can do graphics work with maya and bryce perfectly well and you will save some money so you can load it with ram and spend the rest of the cash on beer :D .
The ibook has quite a kick I dont think you need a powerbook unless you are going to use pro apps in depth but if you have the cash I wouldn't forget about the powerbook. The question you need to ask yourself is Will I be using the extra power and is the extra cash worth it?

Well, I use Microsoft's software (Office 2004) more than just about anything non-Apple, and you have to admit that there is NO WORD PROCESSOR that can parallel Word for Mac in terms of file format compatiblity, features, reliability, ease of use, and name recognition. OpenOffice doesn't even run on Aqua yet, and AbiWord is still a bit shaky. The one thing AbiWord has that I wish Word had is a Latin spelling dictionary -- and there are probably very few Latinists out there who feel the need to spellcheck their Latin with MS Word. Excel is as good as any other spreadsheet and PowerPoint's native files will work on Windows (unlike Keynote). I've never actually used Entourage but it looks to be better than Outlook. Virtual PC is nothing shameful, either.
Brettrix (http://brettrix.for.macosx.co.nz, if I recall correctly) by Angela Brett and Rob Rix truly does deserve its title of "Swiss Army Cuckoo of Tetrices" -- a better OS X Tetris is yet to be seen by these eyes.
And who can forget Photoshop Elements? Adobe's Mac software is pretty good -- Photoshop Elements 2 lets me do most of the stuff I did on Windows with Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7.
Also there is Ambrosia. Beyond even such fine games as Deimos Rising, you have Wiretap.

Thanks guys, I live in the USA. California to be specific. The reason why I wanted separate insurance is cause my parents homeowners insurance doesn't cover anything at home that is not purchased in their name. :(

I had on of these and gave it away.
My boss had one of those. I tried several times to get him to part with it but no luck.

I like. Since I've got the Speck PixelSkin HD right now I wouldn't mind if it's bulky. If the kickstand is removable and the price is reasonable I'd get one. Really feeling the black/red colorway.

Thank you so much! I've been searching everywhere and wasn't able to find a concrete answer. That just makes AppleCare even more of a no-brainer!
I'm in the same boat - the nearest Apple Store is over an hour away. Luckily we have two stores near here - Mactown and MacDepot. You don't even have to call Apple first - you can just take it in. A friend of mine near here had her power adapter fry her Macsafe board inside her Macbook. Took it to Mactown, and the next day the board and the adapter were both replaced no charge. Saw the repair invoice that they were billing Apple for and it was over $600. Definitely paid off. :D

I think I will be making it to the Ardmore store. I have never been to a launch there. I was hoping to get there at 3:30 ish too. I am hoping for a WiFi 64 GB one, with an orange cover. We shale see, this will be my first launch day event since Leopard came out, and that wasn't bad at all.

I know what I'm suggesting is a little trivial, but I think it's unnecessary. I think a solution to this could be: instead of adding repeated question marks, add the "?" icon in front of a post. This could be a more elegant, less annoying and more effective solution to getting your question answered.
Thank you for your tolerance,

After being down for nearly a day, it is STILL NOT available for download. I just don't like the fact that all iOS product being the slaves of iTunes. (Now it is available for windows and still not for mac, apple fix mac things first!).
I never thought of iTunes, as the most essential software for all the iOS devices. I realized it, when I deleted iTunes due to sync issues and could not find a installable copy from Apple.com or any where.
Next time, download first, before deleting for re-install.
That IS the lesson, download first. But this is also a first, I have never been not able to download something from Apple.

I am used to the Mac OS (and my G4 is dieing). I'm leaning towards the iMac because I mostly have Mac software and it contains ALL of my music and photo's. However given the specs the Samsung looks tempting:confused:

I don't see any problem with the large number of categories either, just as long as all of them doesn't appear on the front page.
And we definitely should have separate categories for Apple software and hardware.

Wont the OS 'be PPC', preventing it from booting on intel hardware, and also devoid of drivers? I know the apps included on OS X are UBs, but isn't the 'core' either PPC or x86?
Intel can boot from a GUID(intel) or Apple Partition Map-APM(PPC). Leopard is also universal as it contains all files for both PPC and x86 Macs. All Snow Leopard was basically a stripped down version of Leopard, just removed all PPC support.
I removed a hard drive from my G5 and had it in a USB enclosure and it booted just fine on my 2009 Mac Mini. I was running 10.5.8 even though my Mini shipped with 10.6.

Lol he looks like an old hippy teaching creative writing or something at a csu. He is so dangerous he has to be kept in solidary and the entire cuban inmate population had to jump him and tackle him to subdue him in the 80s prison riots -- because the federal govt wouldnt deal with the cubans if he was still lose. They even had to escort him recently in a Hanibal lector suit at some recent gag trials.

"Carter said defense lawyers could call Tommy Silverstein as a witness but warned the notorious Aryan Brotherhood leader known as "Terrible Tom" would be shackled in court "just like a 'Silence of the Lambs' character."
Silverstein killed a guard in 1983 at Marion federal prison in Illinois after slipping his handcuffs with the help of another gang member and pulling a concealed foot-long knife.
Silverstein, who has also been convicted of killing three other inmates, is the nation's most heavily guarded prisoner, according to prosecutors. He is confined to a special cellblock in the basement of Leavenworth Penitentiary in Kansas.
"He will come out here in chains and sit there in chains," Carter said in a pretrial hearing on Friday."

Ok, here is the issue. I have a MacBook Pro 15 inch 2.4 Core 2 Duo (late 2007 model) with 6GB of RAM (DDR2 667). I don't know how to explain this because I am so pissed! Ok so let me try. Take a look at this screenshot.
http://img808.imageshack.us/img808/6137/screenshot20110421at839.png (http://img808.imageshack.us/i/screenshot20110421at839.png/)
It says Used 5.97GB and Inactive 2.07GB. WTF? why cant it release that 2.07GB? I cant open other apps because there is only 28.6MB of memory FREE.. I know the Inactive Memory is there so it helps the frequently opened apps to start faster.. but what if I want to open apps that I don't frequently open?
WTF do I do? Is there something screwed up in my OS or is this how OS X manage memory?
Sorry for expressing my frustration..
