Back in the 90s, auto magazines in the US criticized the Jetta for being too small (similar criticisms were leveled at the underrated Mondeo sold here as the Contour). I always like the in-between size of the Jetta, but apparently most Americans prefer larger cars.

I would like to think I'm wrong, but most Americans seem to correlate size and quality, i.e. bigger cars are better. People can't understand why anyone would buy a smaller car when a bigger one could be had at the same price.

I have owned three "small" cars. A 1988 Ford Tempo, a 1990 Geo Storm, and a 1995 Ford Probe. All three were solid cars. However I have not bought a small car in many years for one reason. It's not that "big" cars are better because they're big. It's because generally speaking, the gas mileage on most smaller cars isn't better than those of standard sedans. In some cases it's worse. Case in point: Nissan Versa vs. Nissan Altima 2.5SL. The Altima destroys the Versa in real world mileage. Plus you get the added room and comfort and features. The price is only slightly higher in terms of monthly payments.

As per before, ground rules apply.

    Monthly Desktops Guidelines:
    • For large images use [tIMG] rather than [IMG]
    • Use attachments when necessary so images don't disappear when they are removed from their source
    • When possible, include links to the full-sized original so others can download them. If you don't want to share, state that in your posts so others don't continue to ask for links.
    • When quoting a post with images, leave the image out, or make sure you [tIMG] to reduce clutter.

iChat phone? Who is using iChat?

Belkin has a already a nice looking Skype phone on the market and I'm tempted to buy it.

If Apple really wants to release an "instant-messaging-phone" they should keep the options for other messengers open. I believe.

HAving moved from an iPhone 3G to an HTC Desire then recently to an iPhone 4, I have to say iOS is just a slicker, faster (in operation), more straightforward phone operating system. Android doesn't suck but it's a slapped together fiddle-fest by comparison.

However, people now see a 10 month old iPhone VS. ungainly 4.3 inch, dual-core, Android superphones and, as we know in the tech world, big numbers usually mean bigger sales.

Apple doesn't need to worry about Android getting big (it's going to dwarf the rest as you can get a low-end Android phone on a 15 contract these days) but does need to stay in touch with the top-tier Android phones else it can not longer bask in a 'Mercedes of phones' status.

This means faster updates (ideally a 4inch '4s' should have been out by now) and, radically, sqeezing GSM functionality into the iPod Touch making it a 'phone if you want it to be' and thus tackling the Android low-end while still being a premium product.

Also, iPhone didn't need CDMA. America needs less sucky GSM networks.

Help! Email was fine this morning; now it's eating each email as I open it (in all mailboxes). The first time it let me read the email, but then started eating the reply, line by line. Now it's eating them in a flash -- I don't even get to see the text. Have I got a bug?! What do I do?! Renee

Regarding Rollover Minutes: If you reduce your minutes to a 700 minute plan, they will reduce your RO minutes from whatever you had to 700 minutes. If you call c/s (and ask nicely), they can let you keep up to 5000 RO minutes.

I've done it several times with no problems.

iOS World Frustration Index suddenly dropped to bottom. Numbers finally start to matter again. Once they add Macs, Mac Pros, Mac Minis, refurb resales etc. to the list (when they run iOS) - it will be time to declare victory :D

So Samsung believed Apple was violating it's patents all this time but decided to do nothing about it. Now that they have been pushed they decide to act. Sounds to me they are trying to find whatever they can to bite back at Apple.

Well I think my question is obvious.
Is it safe to update my iTunes and still be able to synchronize it without problems?

It is good to see you have the most important game there, Golden Eye!!

Lol! Yup! ... Was my most looked forward to game this Christmas! Really thankful my mom got me the bundle! :)

    My final haul:

... and then some socks, undershirts, cologne, candy, etc... Also got some cool Star Wars stuff, a great Saddleback wallet, and about $250 of unique giftcards/cash. Also bought Donkey Kong Country Returns a couple days ago at a GREAT bargain... but might return it since I probably won't get to it in a while.

All in all, a fantastic Christmas. It's been a very hard year for me and my family; but you certainly wouldn't be able to tell today. I'm very, very grateful for my wonderful and loving family, and am very glad that I could see all my family over the last couple days.

...Apple is rumored (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/28/apple-purchases-icloud-com-for-4-5-million/) to have purchased the iCloud.com domain name for $4.5 million dollars.

Does this mean whoever randomly happened to have iCloud.com just made 4.5M$? Is there any money to be made by squatting on those? That seems counterintuitive, since if anyone could do it, so could Apple. Or do all domain names that have the form i[noun].com cost a ton of money for that reason?
