vxg...I disagree with your statement that "stamp...can be forged'. Anything can be forged (e.g. passport, money). If the I-551 is legit what do you have to be afraid of?
wandmaker is correct. Take infopass, tell them you may have to travel soon and get the stamp. I've done it...nothing wrong with that. By the way, since your I-485 is approved, your AP is no longer valid and you should not use it.
What is stated came from my lawyer and a friend of mine ran into trouble in India where immigration folks gave him hard time and did not believe the stamp when he was returning. At US entry point you will be OK with stamp however you need approval notice as local office will not stamp passport without you having the notice.

My petition was approved 4 months back, after calling 100 times USCIS.
In my wife's case we spoke with IO on Sept 4th.
Created Service Request on 5th Sept.
During September 2nd week spoke to IO, IO sent an email to IO who is looking at petition.
During September last week we got Service Request generic response "Wait 180 days" which I have seen 2 times in my case .
On Sept 29th sent 7001 form to Ombudsman. Ombudsman office might have received the application on or before 1st October.
October 2nd 2009 my wife's petition approved.
So if your case is genuine case problem. Don't waste your time calling Immigration officers. Send 7001 form to Ombudsman's office.

I think you have not read my question clearly. I suggest you read it before answering. I have not seen where the USCIS website asks for pending case numbers if we choose second option. I hope someone who has done this online can shed some light on this.

My old H-1b will expire on June 30 2007. My employer has applied the new H-1b extension, but it is still pending. I am planning to go back to my country this summer and try to apply for H-1 visa in US embassy in early June. Did you mean you are going to apply for a new visa stamp in your country ? If yes, your new visa stamp will be valid until June 30. I am not sure I got the 3 moth visa validity part.
When they extend your h1 they give you new I94. If you go to your home country and reenter on the old visa , you get a new I94 valid until june30 only from port of entry. My lawyer cautioned me about this once because your latest I94 (short validity) may be the valid one. I am not sure about this but I remember getting cautioned about traveling while H1B extension application is pending. I had to have my H1 approval mailed to me and show the new extension at the port of entry so that I get a valid I94 with new valid date.
Talk to an Attorney when in doubt.

Nothing is "forever." If you hire a good attorney, he/she can argue, that you did have immigrant intent in the past, but have abandoned it and will try to get you a visa. However, without a good lawyer, it may be very difficult to persuade a consular officer that you no longer wish to immigrate to the U.S. after entering here. Well optimism and positive thinking is the only way up in life mate. Anyways we all know wht happened last year wherer so many people got there ead in a year from first stage. There were lucky hope v r too. Thats the optimism.
The way u r replying seems to be u r one of those in that frustated waiting list. I only can wish u the best.
What planet are you from ? BTW don't forget to get your pixy dust :):)

I also paper filed EAD on 05/13/2008, Cheques cashed very next day and also received receipt notice by mail on 05/16/2008. So far no FP notices. I also read somewhere in the forum saying no FP's when paper file.

I have done it once. It all depends on your relationship with your current employer. If they are ok with it, you shouldnt have any problems.
