Hello everyone. I am considering buying some ram for my Dell in signature. So it turns out that my Dell uses the exact same type of ram as my iMac 27" i7. As far as I know, the iMac by default comes with 4 ram slots, with 2x2GB ram being used for 4GB. This means that I should have 2 slots open, right? I was considering buying 2x2gb ram sticks, which will bring my dell up to 6GB Ram(4 slots as well, 2 are slightly more difficult to get to atm, currently has 4x1GB). I could then take the extra 2x1gb and boost my iMac up to 6 GB as well.

Now, the question. I went on NewEgg, and I noticed quite a few offers I could choose from, listed here.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007609%20600006178%20600000403&IsNodeId=1&name=4GB%20%282%20x%202GB%29

Now, I have never purchased ram before. As far as I can tell, each offer has the exact same specs, but slightly different prices. By first glance, of course I would jump to the $40.99 Crucial listing. Is their a reason for different pricing? Is one package preferred over the other?

    Thanks
    Bruce

Edit: On second glance, it seems the Ram in my iMac is 1333 Mhz, not the 1066. I know for a fact that the Ram in my Dell and the Late 2009 MBP are compatible with each other(and I know the MBP was 1066 Mhz). I was also under the impression that the Ram in that MBP and my iMac was also compatible. Will my iMac only support 1333 MHz, or will 1066 MHz work as well?

The only good thing I can say about the new Spymac is that it seems to be a lot faster. Apart from that, I really don't like it. The old layout was better.

I just logged into my root user account in Terminal, and it seems that this security issue isn't just about the 2nd-to-last character in a password: my root password is 13 characters long, and as long as I get the first 8 characters right, it accepts the password even if the last 5 characters are excluded or incorrect.

I just tried the same thing in the Finder, and it works there too.

edit: by the way, I have 10.2.6.

    1. Go here: http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/

    2. Scroll down until you see "iPhone / iPod touch / iPad"

    3. Click the drop down menu and look for "iPod Touch __G 3.1.2 7D11" *

    4. Download the file and save it somewhere you remember

    5. Open iTunes and plug in your iPod Touch normally.

    6. Go into the iPod summary page and look for the "Restore button"

    7. While holding the "Ctrl" key on your keyboard, click the "Restore" button

    8. A window will pop up asking to locate the .ipa (The file you downloaded)

    9. Select it and open it. It will now downgrade.

    10. Congrats you are now on the faster 3.1.2!

*Fill the blank with the generation number.

If you have a flat back, then it's the first generation (1G)
If you have a curved back, and MB model number, it's the second generation (2G)
If you have a curved back and MC model number, it's the third generation (3G)

All 3.1.2 firmwares will be 7D11.

    Hope this helps.

From the quotes in the article, it sounds more like the Samsung spokesperson was answering a direct question. At the very least, there's nothing in the quoted text to suggest anyone "throwing down the gauntlet". I suggest that incorrect metaphors are saved for sports coverage from now on. Now how do I contact the International Business Times?

Does anyone know how I could do this? Basically I have a client who wants to stream a part of their store to the general public so that people could see what happens during the day. All that I know at the moment is that it will be a flash window located on their front page. I just don't know how I should go about streaming to the web. Would I need a dedicated IP? Hardware/Server? What kind of bandwidth would this require?

I posted the same question here some time back but got no response(N) So, i done some digging for myself.

When i done mine it was for a DofE (A Charity), which meant i was after a rather free option, i found YawCam (http://www.yawcam.com/). Downloading their software, i was then able to stream live onto a html page, which they set up for free! I then embeded it into my own website.

I am having the same problem since few days. I don't think it is keyboard though, despite 100% level showing up all the time. Though Mighty Monitor shows 70% and the batteries were replaced no later than 2 weeks ago, so it is definitely not a keyboard related issue due to low battery.

Yesterday I simply took out my iphone from the dock before putting MP asleep and it didn't wake up.

Well, I don't know about the calendar syncing, but the best Verizon feature phone is the LG enV3.

Unfortunately there does not seem to be a good way to sync most LG phones with a mac computer. The only thing I have come across is Bit Pim and its reviews are pretty spotty.

Love the second one. I can imagine it being made of similar material to a flag; is that true?

Going from the picture that's what it looks like its made from. it could also be some sort of tarp material.

Since both drives are internal, you can indeed dedicate one drive to Windows.

If you plan on using it frequently and feel like opening it, you can upgrade the ram and stick an ssd in for a significant boost in responsiveness.

Other than that, you could put Plex on it to replace the AppleTV, or use it as a file/webserver, etc.

I don't think I will need any of the server features, and I'm not to tech Savy, just deal savy. Unless there is 1 or 2 killing features that OS X server can bring to me I think putting on SL would suite me better and use less resources.

the user interface looks a bit different and has many program/Apps/settings that I have no clue what they are for. I think I will need to read up on it or take a few classes to understand what it all means.

I think I'm going to clone an SL OS over as it has no disc drive or would a clean remote install of SL be better?

I've opened many mini's before so putting in a SSD will be a great upgrade. I just need to get a cheap 250 GB SSD

I have to Test Illustrator / Quark files for Compatibility (specially fonts, etc)

I think the best way will be with Remote Desktop. I have used Remote Desktop for PC to PC and its perfect for what I need and I expect it should work as well in MAC.

    Thanks for advice.

OCZ PCIe SSD. 1TB storage @ 1.4GB read and write speeds.

    Price? Only $4400

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227517

I've been researching some of the OCZ PCI solutions (much cheaper of course) and I doubt I will be able to boot in Mac Pro with that card, is that true ?

If the stick physically fits, then it won't cause harm.

At best, it'll work great, running the stick out of spec.

At worst, the PC won't boot with the 'wrong' stick in there.

Most likely (all this is assuming a 'wrong' stick,) it will boot, but will boot slower than you want. For example, if it has an 866MHz processor, it might only boot at 650Mhz. (Because, for example, it uses a 133Mhz bus, and you put 100Mhz RAM in, so it would run the processor at only a 100MHz bus, dropping it's speed accordingly.)

Or, with lots of motherboards, the processor speed and RAM speed were independent, so it would run just fine, but the memory would run at the 'lowest common denominator' speed. This is especially true of newer DDR motherboards.
so basically, if the stick fits, and its faster than the memory the computer takes, it will clock down. I dont think that will be the case, the memory is older. I am just going to throw it in. I just dont want to ruin the computer, still need it for school.

What we really need is a Windows Keynote player downloadable for free off of Apple's website. ...Apple could probably throw one together in a day and iWork sales would skyrocket (not to mention the switching potential of the Windows users watching such a beautiful presentation on their piece of crap :D).

I don't think that would work, considering Keynote uses lots of Quartz technologies, which Windows of course doesn't have. iTunes and QuickTime are different of course because they don't rely on any Core/Quartz tech.

Just out of curiosity, do you have a target price range? Brand new Radeon 9200s are about $130.

I recommend a Radedon 7000 or 9200 for their good performance. They're pretty cheap on the used market.

Safari 5.1 on Lion for me is, without exaggeration, 4 times faster loading pages than 5.0.3 on SL. It's insanely fast loading anything from HTML5 to Flash content.

It's not just snappier, it's in a different realm.
