"There are lots because no one has been buying in anticipation"
i was at the local Apple store 4 days ago and the place was packed and i watched 3 iMacs and 7 notebooks and a mini leave in just over an hour. i mentioned MWSF to an employee and he laughed and said most people didn't know about it. they are not having ANY trouble selling stuff in the run up.
yeah, people who hit these forums are not buying, but everyone else is going to town and laying their cards down. look at estimates for Apples sales over the holiday! :D

Not sure if I wanna go through with it it but how does 95USD shipped sound? Also is a zip and an EZ drive the same(sorry im a dumbass)
That sounds good. I will include an AC adapter for it and the USB cable that came with it. I'm not sure what an EZ drive is though. :confused:
Edit: Just found another zip disc I could include. Also 100MB.
If you don't take it I'll stick it up on eBay, which is what I would like to do. You may have problems with customs on your end.

Repair disk permissions with disk utility, use a program like Disk Genius or Disk Warrior to defragment your hard drive (yes, Macs can suffer from fragmentation over time, albeit at a slower pace than Windows), and run a utility like Onyx to do various maintenance tasks.

Google Chrome 10 Is Lighting Fast, with some great new features.
I've been watching in near disbelief at how fast it is on my 15" 2011 8GB / Vertex 3, SSD equipped MBP.

Hi all,
Just purchased my first mac and have a couple of questions.
1. When I use an external monitor and choose mirroring to show on the external the display is really bad compared to the laptop. How do I fix this, I want the external display to look as crisp as the laptop. Also, I'm using the HDMI adapter. When i go to display properties it shows 1280 x 800 is max I think...Any ideas?
2. Why won't safari pages and itunes go to full display? Does that make sense? All i get is the small pages when you open them up. I see the green button but it dosen't seem to fix my problem.
I'm sure I will have more as I get more into this.
1. As previously mentioned, you're mirroring, which is pretty self explanatory, you're making a mirror image of your computer screen, resolution and all. Tell us how you truly want to use your external display: extended desktop, or as a main screen when at home? We'll be able to tell you more.
2. Because maximizing everything is a very windows-user and useless thing to do, once all the info/text on a page is on screen, any bigger is completely useless and just blocks everything out behind it. Macs are meant to multi-task, and not maximizing helps doing just that. If you truly want to maximize everything for some obscure reason, just drag the bottom right corner and resize the window manually.

I have been using Windows 7 on bootcamp and I have noticed that the battery depletes very fast. Is this a common problem?

add http://ifixit.com
To hall of fame or hall of shame?
They charge twice, to more than twice as much for any given part than any other place I know of. They are decent for getting compatibility information, but I would never advocate buying parts from there. I'm not saying they're bad by any means, but just not practical when you can get the same part new anyplace else for half the price.
Any site with guides(screenintek, powerbookmedic, ifixit), has highly inflated parts costs.
I will add a point to the hall of shame for sunvalley for the powerbook

Hi all,
I need to scan some photo prints in for archiving, and I'm not real satisfied with my current scanner (Canon) which I've used the past couple years. It seems to have problems picking up subtle color gradients, so the pictures wind up looking overly contrasted. In talking to others, this seems to be an extremely common problem. Anyone know of a solution?
Thanks!

Oh my god! I tried to do this exact same thing last night with absolutely no luck as well...
When you use the "Advanced Setup" it asks for an ftp server, a site name.. and it assumes the port.
Then it goes through its "Setup" and tells you your remote hosting ftp blogger account has been setup on your server for you.
Apparently the folks over at blogger think that minor things like usernames and passwords are unnecessary for ftp access.
I have no idea how to set it up either.

Ok, as of today there are no iPod minis at Circuit City or Sharper Image (at least here in Phoenix anyway) and I had found one on PowerMax's website, but they were already sold out of them before I could order one. I had started a deal with another member here, but his unit needed the battery replaced and couldn't have it done and sent to me before next Thursday (that's when I need it). So that said, is there anyone else here who would like to sell me their iPod mini (any color)? If there are any takers, I can send you money via PayPal today if you can ship it today or tomorrow.
Thanks!
at the store that i work at we still have them, they are 250CAD for them though

It would be neat to mod that somehow with Sims 2. Make it feel like you're "in the game." Then again, your guests may start to think that you "have no life." ;)
That would be cool.
Or you can have stars up, give that feeling of living on another planet.

I should add that I used the install disks that came with the computer.
As someone else mentioned, try running Disk Utility Repair Disk off of your install disc (while booted off it). Or, just reformat (which will erase the contents). The correct format would be "Mac OS Extended". That should give you a clean slate, provided there are no hardware issues (with the drive, in particular). Memory problems would show with different symptoms.
If those are the original discs, it should work. Though, from what I can find on the earliest model (desk lamp style), the minimum it shipped with was 10.1.3. If it was any later model, it should have shipped with 10.2. Original discs should be grey.
10.4, Tiger, should work just fine on that model. I used to run it on a slower 667MHz PowerBook.

What is blank screen mode? I don't run mine in screensaver mode, I turn it on and set my computer to stay on and just shut off my monitor.
**edit**
And I'm pretty sure that seti units are always the same size, its folding ones that aren't.

I was actually just going to ask pretty much the same question and am interested as well.
What I wanted to do was put Windows 7 along with OSX on my 240gb SSD while also partitioning my my 750gb HDD that I'll install in the optibay drive so one side is for Windows in NTFS and the other for OSX.
Possible within disc utilies, right? Sorry, I am a new Mac user =D

Please list the hard drive that you received with your machine.
I've seen a couple of people in here with WD 1TB Caviar Black drives. (yes!!!)
Anyone getting different drives (Seagate, Hitachi, etc.)

You shouldn't add an extra release. Is this what you have?
Yes
@synthesize mapView;
- (void)dealloc
{
//NSLog(@"Retain cont address=%d geoLoc=%d workingPropertyString=%d mapView=%d",[address retainCount],[geoLoc retainCount],[workingPropertyString retainCount],[mapView retainCount]);
[updateData release];
[updateConnection release];
[address release];
[geoLoc release];
[workingPropertyString release];
[mapView release];

If you just bought a new iMac will apple give you the new lion free or with a discount?
I know in 2009 I bought a MBP about a month or two prior to Snow Leopard, Apple gave everyone who bought a Mac within a certain time frame, an upgrade disk for only $10 (67% off). I was one of the lucky ones.

And to quote Phoney from a previous thread:
retainCount is often not useful for debugging memory leaks. There are too many objects that work behind the scenes that retain objects and there are also cases where an object is both retained and autoreleased to control the lifetime of the object. It's difficult or impossible to understand all these cases because you don't see all the code.
What you should do is learn the memory management rules. Then use them correctly. Then use build and analyze and the leaks tool to find problems.
