I was asked a couple of years ago how to set up One's Mac. Indirectly, of course... :)

you probably need to install MacDrive (http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/) or HFS+ (http://www.paragon-software.com/home/hfs-windows/) on your winsloth installation.

If you want to do her a favor, you could check her iTMS settings and de-authorize the computer before re-formatting.
That's good news, and I'll proceed w/ the reinstall. Guess I should also figure out what iTMS settings are before I get started.
(Did I double-post something?)

Don't give up on the monitor until you have taken it to a competent TV repair shop that knows monitors as well. For $30 to $50 they can sharpen and focus the monitor to the limit of its tube condition, and estimate any repairs and lifespan remaining. Granted, a tube will fade irrevocably after a number of years but I have taken many un-viewable monitors for the tune-up with an 80% success rate. Much cheaper than replacing and if it keeps it out of the landfill, so much the better.
(Note: Don't take the hood off a monitor and start poking around inside unless you are conversant with high voltage safety precautions or have a paid up life insurance policy. Those puppies have enough juice to stun a horse in them even when unplugged.)

I would love nothing more than to do that, but finding academic resources is apparently required for this assignment. I'm not having any luck on the abstract/index search. Maybe I am just usuing the wrong keywords.
Anything that could possibly be construed as legitimate and academic would be sooo appreciated.

When my home studio opened in 2000 i was running a pentium 3 1 ghz system with 512mb ram and a 60-gig hd. In 2002 i updated to XP and had no problems from then on. I was using cubase sx on pc and was having very little problems maybe 1 crash every 2 months. The main problem was speed... wasn't able to run many tracks with the plugins I had. So this Oct. I purchased a brand new dual2.0ghz g5 with 512mb ram and a 160-gig hd. I purchased motu Digital Performer 4 and the g5 came with panther. Now in January I'm beginning to regret this decision. First of all i must say OSX is flawless. It's a pleasure to work with everyday. Now on the hardware side. The speed is very good but I'm an audio engineer and obviously the control room must be as quiet as possible. The system itself...pretty silent. Now the crunching squeaking and chirping that is coming out of my speakers and headphones is far form silent. My clients complain almost everytime about the noise that is coming from their headphones in between takes. Digital Performer is awful. I have never used a program that loves to randomly quit to often. My recommendation for any audio engineer or musician/engineer stay away from the first generation g5' and digital performer. The combination of the two has all but ruined my mac experience.

Everyone,
This thread is about name-calling that conservatives, moderates, liberals, and others do. Please feel free to point out any example of public name-calling, especially public name-calling that conservatives have done. I say "public name-calling" because I'm thinking mostly about public figures. I would hate to hear anyone, including me, libel, slander, detract, or calumniate anyone. Name-callers may have committed any sin I've just described. But my purpose in't to name-call in the words public figures use. It's to point out evil, so we can fight it. This discussion is about actions, not about any name-caller's motives for name-calling.

Palestinian factions sign reconciliation deal
Representatives of factions including Fatah and its rival Hamas ink deal following talks in Egypt.
Palestinian factions have signed a reconciliation deal that will pave the way for elections within a year.
Representatives of factions including Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah party and its rival Hamas inked the deal following talks with Egyptian officials in Cairo on Tuesday.
"We signed the deal despite several reservations. But we insisted on working for the higher national interest," said Walid al-Awad, a politburo member of the leftist Palestine People's Party.
"We have discussed all the reservations. Everyone has agreed to take these points into consideration," he told Egyptian state television without elaborating.
"Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank will be celebrating this agreement... We must now work to implement what was agreed in the deal."
.....
The deal, which was announced last week, comes after 18 months of fruitless talks and envisions the formation of an interim government of independents that will pave the way for presidential and legislative elections within a year...
Not surprisingly, Netanyahu isn't happy about this, but it's a year for changes in the Arab world

Could be the HDD has died. You might try booting from the install DVD to see if it will do that. There's a sticky (I think) about what to do when your mac won't boot.

I'll look at it if you post it as an SWF or HTML ... im not about to DL a .ZIP.
Without looking at it though, my first reaction is to check your _parent(s) to see if your calling out a level to short since the movie breaks when losded into another movie. Maybe use _root if it doesn't bug your HTML? Just a thought.

yeah it looks like there was a transparent background and that at some point it got converted from a gif/png to a jpg and so, in the process of being rastorized, it looks pixelated. i'd go back to the original image with transparent background and re-export for web.

Do I consider it fried?
Not necessarily. Are you sure the power adapter you purchased works with the 180c? Even though the plug fits and they look physically identical, the power adapters for the black and white Powerbook 1xx series didn't have enough oomph to power the color models. Looking at the specs, the 180c needs a 24W adapter. Check the back of your adapter - is that what you have?
