Thanks for the advice everyone. I kind of knew that the repair idea was a bit of a folly parts are getting rare and expensive relative to the value of the computer. Over the years I have replaced a fan, key board and LCD due kid induced failure and still have a working computer. I guess I will keep the kids and get a new lap top later this year, and use the IPad the kids gave me for fathers day till then.

update:
I formated und updated the drive with "Lido7" (I found it here...) (http://www.euronet.nl/users/ernstoud/lido7.html)
it should work, but it doesn't...
I figure that it has something to do with the jumper configuration, but I can't figure out what...
I would be very thankful if someone could help me out...

If you are in the Finder, the "cut" option is disabled so because otherwise if you actually selected "cut", whatever file or application was selected would be removed from the window/desktop, and placed in the clipboard. That wouldn't be a good idea, as if you then cut or copied something else, the first item would be deleted for good.
However, if the selection in the Finder is the text of the name of a file or application, then you can "cut", as that's just affecting the name and not the actual file.
I hope I've been clear enough.
I guess Apple decided that allowing people to "cut" files and application's would be too risky. I tend to agree with them, if you want to trash something, there are better ways.

The OP is wrong. Maybe that happens when you are more focused on formatting than the content of your post.
$19.99 gets you MyWi and a hotspot plus BT and USB tethering.
Add $4.99 if you want to use the MyWi OnDemand option which also requires pairing with another jb device also running MyWI plus OnDemand.

Hi folks, I was looking at buying a mac mini server edition, but I was wondering with the upcoming release of 10.7 in summer will a new 10.7 server edition of OSX be released simultaneously? Or does it follow a few months later? Upgrading the server license is expensive so I'd rather have the up to date software if it's coming out within a year, and I don't need the server badly or anything, it's mostly just to mess around with (first server for me).
On another note, how do people like the mac mini server? Is it reliable enough even with the same components?
There will almost definitely be a 10.7 server at the same time as 10.7. As far as reliability, it is a mac mini running OSXS. How often do your mac minis need repair? (Mac mini actually has the lowest failure rate of any model computer Apple sells.) I use my server for testing/learning/trying crazy things. I'm a Linux and Mac SysAdmin. However, aside from educational use, I see absolutely no point for most home users to have a mac mini server.

install on the Mini, then carbon copy cloner to the Xserve.
then to keep it legal, delete it from the mini.

I decided to buy mini server cause i thought it was a better deal than regular mini. I don't need the server part. So when lion comes out it will install on my mini server just like the regular mini, without server apps?

All i can come up with is spammy software. I currently use Phoneview to transfer files however it's pretty buggy software, crashes a lot and i get a lot of permission errors. I think there's an upgrade but i'm leaning away from paying upgrade and finding something new.
What's everyone else in hacks using?:)
ninja edit: just stumbled upon iPhone explore (http://www.macroplant.com/iphoneexplorer/)r, users saying it's buggy and not as good as phoneview however i'll give it a spin.

hmm... Im interested... My free trial doesnt run out until August, will this just extend the free trial? Or will it work after Dot Me is released?
All .Mac accounts, even trials, get converted to MobileMe when it is released. If you buy an account, it will become active and expire one year from the day you entered the code (not one day from the end of your trial period, unless you enter it on the last day of your trial).

A thought, that is a carrier setting it asks for sometime. If it was interrupted in asking for that with a bad signal it wont give you the option?
Since TetherMe adds the hotspot feature, how could it be related to a carrier signal?

My phone gets slow with jailbreaking. Did anyone see his phone unable to load settings? Pretty much what happens to me
Anyways, jailbreaking is cool. You can do a lot with it. Just need a faster iPhone.

I don't have an account but my mother does. I'm sure it'll be fine but lemme just let her know before I give a final OK.
And since I'm here, I have 2 people queued up on the PS2 so that is essentually sold.

Hi there.
A week ago I purchased Booq Sueeze backpack for daily commute, which is later turned out to be wrong choice. It looks cool and can hold things I need, but... here are reasons:
1. The area shoulder straps have cushion is quite short and straps are quite unmovable that it can't fit my shoulder really. Carrying it for just 5-10 mins hurts my shoulder.
2. Too much faithfullness in its name. It's really "squeeze", it really doesn't have play in it (no even a little space/room). It allows to squeeze things, but when the zippers are closed things push each other. In my case, small hair wax case gives pressure my MBP. I don't think it would break the screen of the laptop, but it just doesn't feel good to keep doing it everyday.
Because of these 2 reasons I started to find a nice (ergonomical) backpack again. What I've found nice so far is:
Convertec - Racer Computer Backpack
Briggs and Riley - Glide
Tumi - Arriv backpack
These three.
If you know any good ergonomical backpack which can hold a laptop, or if you could drop some impressions/review if any of you are one of those user I'd appreciate it, especially Briggs&RIley Glide review (Does it have enough space to put water bottle, two A4 sized books, 13" MBP, wallet, small gadgets and small things like hair wax, hand cream...etc).
Sorry for muddly writing I did my best but this isn't my primaly lang...
Thanks!

folks - i have an iphone 4, with an unlockable baseband, waiting on an unlock :((other than geevy SIM option), anyways, wanted to see if there is someway, i can atleast do facetime. now if i install gv SMS extension, is it possible to activate facetime with that??? if my gv mobile account can send and receive international SMS, can i use it to activate my facetime?
also, when i try to slide the button to activate facetime now, it instantly slides back to off again(after displaying the message 'waiting for activation' for about a second. dont know how to fix that either..
anyone has any input on how to fix it, pls share your ideas/solutions...
